It so happened that construction became his lifework. He started his professional life in 1973 as a stone mason in the building office №199 of the trust "Mosstroy -13" of Glavmosstroy. He graduated from Moscow construction and municipal housing technical school and in 1974 was appointed a foreman in the building office №199 of the trust "Mosstroy -25" of Glavmosstroy.
During the 17 years of work in the trust he worked his way up from mason to deputy manager of the trust. In this period he developed into an experienced organizer of building and construction and a principal and demanding leader.
From 1982 to 1986 Smirnov V.A. held responsible positions in Mongolian People’s Republic, he had done much for the development of building and construction of different projects in the capital of MPR Ulan Bator. He personally participated in construction of housing estates with a total area of 425 thousand of square meters: a palace of pioneers, a marriage palace, a medical complex, a House of Soviet science and culture as well as industrial establishments and infrastructure projects. He paid a lot of attention to the improvement of economic mechanism in the conditions of that period and to the introduction of progressive forms of labour organization.
When his trip was finished he was appointed the head of labour and salary department of the trust "Mosstroy -25" and from 1987 to 1990 was a deputy manager of the trust. On acquiring great experience and showing managerial ability and industry he was appointed the deputy head of personnel administration of the sanatory complex "Valuevo" of Glavmosstroy. He paid a lot of attention to the development of the complex, the improvement of the conditions of treatment and leisure of the staff, veterans and children of the staff of Glavmosstroy.
In 1991 - 1992 he held an appointment as the general manager of a joint Soviet – Hong Kong enterprise and at the same time he studied in All-Union construction engineering institute. He graduated from the institute in 1993.
Since the foundation of Design and Construction Corporation "Moszarubezhstroy" Smirnov V.A. has been its general manager.
On the initiative of Smirnov V.A. annual corporate and financial assistance is given to Filimonkovskij children’s community, the charitable foundation “Moscow House of Mercy”, the organizations of veterans "Egypt war veterans", " Afghanistan war veterans", to the soldiers of the sponsored military unit, orthodox churches, vocational-technical school №46 and Moscow Cadet Corps of Justice.
High engineering qualification, good managerial qualities and high professionalism let Smirnov V.A. lead the corporation with success and solve practical tasks on building and construction of various social and industrial projects in Moscow, Moscow region, CIS countries and foreign countries.
His creative approach to the solution of production and personnel questions, high exactingness to himself and engineering staff harmonize with his jealousy for their well-being, provision of good social conditions at building sites. Thereby he won business authority and respect of the company’s staff.
For his long service and considerable personal contribution to the building and reconstruction of projects in Moscow Smirnov V.A. was awarded the medals "In memory of the 850-th anniversary of Moscow" and "Veteran of Labour" and has titles of Honorary builder of Russia and Honorary builder of Moscow.
Being the permanent general manager of the corporation throughout all years he persists in commissioning new equipment and technology, inventively manages the staff workers, engineers, constructors and designers, – cares for the professional advancement of the staff and participates in training of the young staff members, believing they are the cornerstones of further success of the company.
